What We Do
Crisis Recovery Specialists was founded with one thought in mind:
To help individuals and families make it through the legal process.
This became a passion of ours after we went through the process ourselves. We saw a tremendous need for an experienced, professional voice to lead others to a successful outcome. Although it was a tremendously difficult time in our lives, we used the legal process to enhance our relationships with each other, with our children, and with our friends. We have combined our 30 years of experience as clinical psychologists, including one of us as a former prison administrator and clinician, to provide you with compassionate support and unmatched advisement. At the same time, we teach you the strategies that have worked so well for us and others.
When people think of the legal process, they undoubtedly think of attorneys, courtrooms, and sentencing. While these are all part of it, there is a parallel process which does not receive much attention. Ask anyone who has been charged with a crime, and they will tell you that the most difficult and enduring aspect of the legal process is everything that occurs outside of the courtroom. The three main components of this are family, professional, and social. Here are some of the topics we address in each area:
Family:
- How do I hold my marriage/relationship together?
- How do I discuss this with my children?
- How will my family respond to me over time?
- Will my children ever see me the same again?
- How do I minimize the impact on my children?
- What support can I expect from my family?
- Who will take over my role of provider for the family?
- What will we have to give up as a result of this charge?
- How do we deal with the possibility of incarceration?
- How can my family relationships survive a lengthy prison sentence?
- How do we reintegrate successfully once my sentence is over?
Professional:
- How will my employer respond to my criminal charges?
- What will my customers/clients think?
- If I lose my job, who is going to support us?
- Will anyone give me another chance?
- What do I need to do to become an attractive candidate in the marketplace again ?
- What steps do I need to take now to best position myself professionally at the end of the legal process?
Social:
- How will our friends respond?
- Will I have to give up positions on community boards or clubs?
- How/when do I communicate to friends about the charges?
- Are there any strategies to preserve my current relationships?
- How do I overcome being viewed as a criminal?
- How will our family reputation be impacted?
- How can our family minimize the social fallout?
- How should my children respond when people mention the charges?
- How can my children handle teasing from their peers?
These are just a few of the many questions that arise in the process. We provide answers to all of these questions and more. It can be daunting to navigate the legal process alone. We want to guide you through this very difficult time and look forward to discussing your situation.
